  6. Initiative and just getting things done are more easily rewarded in a small company. If you're good at your job, then everyone knows it. It's easier to get a chance to do something you've never done before.
In a big company, there is more pressure to discipline rule-breakers since there are many people who only see you as a problem. But it's easier to break rules in small company.
There is a better chance of a bigger payoff by getting in on the ground floor and the range of visibility to the top management is higher.
Compare with bigger company, there is less constrained atmosphere. After a few years at a small company, you will be very familiar with everyone.
As time goes by, your experience counts for more and your influence grows more quickly. And you have a better chance of influencing the leaders of the company.
You get to learn more as there are less procedures and everyone should know how to work on everything as per the need. So the work is more challenging.
As I prefer faster decision making, easier to test things and push them out to production which means lower cost of mistakes, exposure to more outside technologies and ways of doing things, I would be most likely to work for a local company than joining an international company.

  7. Since I like traveling a lot, I would like to join a big brand as there are more opportunities for travel and formal training. Besides, large company experience added to a resume of small companies only will improve the resume.
By following the defined policies and procedures, so you often have a head start on how to do things and get to learn how to get work done in proper manner. That means more job structure to let you know exactly what is expected of you to do well. One develops skills in one area, hence becoming master in one technology rather than being jack of all trades.
Big company offer better training facilities to make mediocre employees into good ones and more counseling resources to handle problems. Based on better infrastructures, there are more resources and more technology that help to solve problems that you meet.
A Human Resource department which may doesn’t work effectively in a small company can sometimes solve subordinate issues that you can't. Or you can get transferred to different departments and learn different things from people who know what they're doing. While it's necessary, bureaucracy really does get in the way of getting things done quickly and efficiently.
Lastly, the benefits of an international company are probably better. Bigger company usually means there is someone to pick up the slack if you go on vacation or get sick. Stuffs still run smoothly even you are not on the bench.

  8. I think I prefer a big company to a small company. Just like Tom said in their discussion, a big company has a bigger financial base that is a strength they can use to against outside threats. For an example, on the presentation of group 1, Amazon had more resources to produce wireless reading device, kindle, that can increase the e-book market share from the iPad. Another case on my group presentation, IKEA, they are also a global company that has a big financial base. When they opened a new store in Russia, the local utility company told them, if they wanted to have electricity for its opening, it had to pay a bribe. Instead, IKEA rented large diesel generators that had enough power for a shopping mall. On the presentation of group 3, we can find that the CPBL isn’t a powerful organization. They had many problems inside that they were hardly to against game-fixing scandals. They need the government to help them eradicate the underground gambling rings.

If I’m going to graduate and apply for a job, I want to work in a big company because my major is forest management. If I want to be engaged in this industry, my company must have extensive lands, abundant resources, and lots of money that is not a small company can own.

  9. I would like to go to the big company because if it is bigger, it usually has complete social walfare and higher salary. And also as a big company with more people working together, I can learn more skills. Not only that, it’s much more institutionalization ,such as clear and process-based rules ,systematic management. Those give me security. Futher more, I don’t have to worry about working overtime because the distribution of responsibilities and clear allocation of duties. Finaly I believe that the entrance of big company means I had passed a higher threshold, it will be a good experience on my resume.

  10. I prefer to go with a small company when I graduate, even if the pay would be lower than the big one. One of the reason why I choose the small one is I can learn a lot there and it’s gonna be helpful if I have to find a new job someday. People in big company just doing the same things day after day, I don’t wanna spend my whole life in the same jobs, I’m still young and willing to have chance to do anything.

I’m going to graduate in June, and I am a little bit nervous about finding jobs. My parents always tell me how hard to find a job now, but I still believe there is nothing impossible if I make a great effort XD

    ReplyDelete
  11. When I face on choosing a job, I will consider as follows. First, I search the job what I really interest in. Second, I can promote myself in my work. And the company has far vision in the future.
Then I will prefer small company for some important reasons.
*Flexible: corporate management more flexible and creative, more opinion of space for expression, not being rigid.
*Humanity: the opportunity to work directly with employers, learning as a boss, talents are easy to upgrade.
*Multi-Learning: corporate human streamlined and easy to have the opportunity to work independently, able to work with multi-value.
*Benefits: with the size of the company's expansion, if the stock market or the growth space, employees receive compensation opposite.
In conclusion, although small company’s financial base is smaller, it can lay the foundation for my work ability. And I can be more important, like a person, not just a cog in a wheel. And it would be nice to have the relationships with my coworkers on like a human relationship. Moreover I can get along with my boss like friend or family. I think that's always important to get the recognition. Maybe the small company get grow, my boss will pay much attention to my work ability.

  13. For me, I think I prefer to work in small companies after graduation. Because I do not have formal work experiences, comparing to big companies, small companies can be a good a good training place. Although the benefits at small companies may not be compare to large companies, but small companies may have unlimited development opportunities, it can start a domestic market well, and then search for outward development. In addition, small companies may be less clear division of work, resulting in a lot of things I have to do them by myself, but this is also a good learning opportunity for me. Comparing to be a small screw at big companies, I prefer to play a main role in helping companies operation in small companies. Besides, small companies will have more opportunity to voice my own thoughts and opinions, rather than always accepting the upper’s instructions. About interpersonal relationships, colleagues have on clear level relationship in small companies, so it can gather sense of partnership more easily to work for the company.

  18. It's really hard to make a decision between the small and big company. They all have their pros and cons. For the salary part, I prefer choosing the big company. With a huge financial base, it's not a problem for a company to pay more on good workers. As long as I show good working efficiency, I'm sure that I get promoted or a better treatment. For the environment part, I prefer chossing the small company. Big company gives you a lot of money but also huge pressure! Small company is more relax, the realtionship between colleague or boss is much closer than the big company. As a result, choosing which kinds of company all depend on my needs.
As for international and local company, I would love to work for international company! Reason? Just because it’s international. I get more chances to go oversea, even though it’s for business not for tour. However, you can learn and see a lot in an international market. We are now living at the time which everything is globalizing; it’s really hard to avoid it. With so many benefits, I will choose to work for an international company beyond any doubt.

  19. I prefer to choose big company for my future job. As the article said, the big company has a better financial base and credibility, which can measure the capability for company to guarantee employee right and welfare. I know there will be a ton of pressure and stress, if we are being a big company employer. But, it would be good challenge for us to develop our managerial skills. The big company offer their employer many opportunities for job training skills and chance to face big job case, which is can't be found in small company. And the other benefit is if you want to apply or try to find another job in future, you can have a good credit and attention from your next boss since you've been work for big company.

For the presentation of group 1 and 3, I think the two groups were tried to do a good presentation. Since I was a member of group number one, I'm very proud to be a part of this team, because we try to do our best effort to accomplish this presentation. Especially, we are coming from different country and department, but we are still work as a team. And hope you guys, can understand and catch the main idea for the topic we had presented.

For group 3, I think the speaker were tried to do the best for give us information about Chinese Professional Baseball League, but honestly, I could not catch the main idea from the presentation. But I want to give a credit for two man who sat on the front of class (I know you're try to do your best). At least, I can understand why a lot of student in Taiwan very enjoy to play baseball.:-P

  22. Big companies division of fine, also excellent for the system, it can be learned a management company, but fine division of labor, the work content of repetitive high , it may be more narrow.
Many small companies may have to be established, but the wider area of work may be seen more level, as to the boss's style and method of operation, down to the face of customer response, etc., can accumulate a wide and deep learning degree.
If you do not experience in large companies, to go may be more competitive, there is no good education or luck, may be more difficult to enter; but with smaller companies, may be able to own sincerity or positive degree, get a higher chance of recruitment.
So, I think the big companies or small companies are not important, As long as willing to learn the cumulative period of time, learned all your experience.

I think group 1 is a good presentation, they let me understand Amazon. In particular, they all from different countries, during they discussion, I think they had a lot of interesting things, and they are all in English conversation, I think this must be a very good experience for them.
I think group 3 also good…only English speaking is not good, poor expression, I think this is common problem for Taiwan students, including me, we don’t have fluent English speaking, so when someone ask questions in English, we often don’t know how to answer. I think group 3 has try they best.

  23. I prefer to work in the big company. As the article which teacher provide us, working in the big company is more secure than small company. There are some other advantages for me. Big company usually has big reputation and more organized, People can bring their own skill to full play. I think the most important thing make me want to work for big company is my parents. Sometimes parents’ thinking will affect us much, so do I. The other important thing is that work in the big company usually has good salary and has fine promotion system. Because the above reasons, I prefer to work for big company.

  24. I think Group 1 and 3 really made the good presentation. Let me understand more about Amazon and CPBL. Amazon has the very good spirit of enterprise, and CPBL has also. But one is a global company, another is local company.
For me, I like the big company exceeding the small company. On my opinion, there are several reasons. First, the big one has the international view more than the small one. Second, the big one has more institutionalization, such as welfare system, work distribution, and responsibility ownership. Third, there are more people in big one. All people can cooperate with each other, work effectiveness, exchange information, and have good interpersonal relationship. Finally, the big one has more competitive power. When it faces crisis, it will have better response ability. Above all, I prefer a big company to a small company. If I enroll a big one, I think it represents a kind of affirmation.

  25. For the presentation of Group 1 and 3, I think they really did a good job. Most of us know few about Amazon and CPBL, but they led us to touch their field. Group 1 seems to have a nice teamwork even though its members come from different countries. The colorful and vivid PowerPoint slides were also impressive to us. About the content of the presentation, I can understand most of the content easily except the introduction to kindle. They did a WOT analysis for Kindle but few classmates were familiar with it, so I wish they had talked more about Kindle.

I have been interested in all kind of sports, especially for baseball. That’s why I paid attention to the introduction to CPBL, which included SWOT analysis, problems and solutions to CPBL. Nevertheless, the presenters were too shy to speak English. Perhaps they don’t get used to speak English like me.

By the way, the introduction to Amazon and CPBL done by Group 1 and 3’s also gave us the example of an international (big) company and a local (small) company. When it comes to choosing either a big company or a small company, I will prefer to work in a big company. We all know that it will take much more responsibility and pressure if you work for a big company. However, this may be a good opportunity to challenge myself under such a tough situation. Additionally, if I work in an international (big) company, I may be assigned abroad. This experience will broad my horizons. For this reasons, to apply for a big company also means I am ready and confident to take the challenge. I am be willing to contribute what I learned and grow in this kind of company.

On other hand, salary, welfare, financial structure and so on are also what I am concerned about. Due to a strong base in capital, big companies usually can afford to pay more to the employee who dedicate to the company. I believe that the big company has a fair evaluation system that examines employees’ performances. Overall, to evaluate myself and meet my demands when I have a family, I probably will apply for a job in a big company.

  26. Is hard to say which place for work is better –firm or big company. Both of them have pros and cons.

But for me tailors better big company. Big company has bigger financial base so is possible to earn more money. Beside it means that is more stable and is not so easy for it to bankrupt.

Important thing is not only how much is possible to earn but also what amount of money is possible to pay for life insurance which will influence level of pension in the future. Next important thing is law which depends on size of company for example that bigger company must have social fund.

In big company relationships with superiors are not so close which in my opinion is very good. Relationship are very clear without any dependences or understatements. It makes that promotion will be probably dependent on someone’s skills not any other factors.

Next important point is business travels which are more common for big companies. They are very important for someone’s who deals with them because someone’s can meet people from the same branch and get a lot of new contacts.

Competition is bigger in companies where is more employees from the same department. But is competition something bad? Competition causes that someone’s work more efficient and develop himself.

In big company days of absence won’t be a problem because always someone can replace that absent person. So after coming back to work person won’t have to make up for backlogs.

Next important feature is promotion. Is not so easy to say where is easier to get it and in which type of company it will give bigger satisfaction. Will be more satisfactory to be head of part of large project or smaller one but all? Is it more stressful to be chief in one of department in company or rule in firm where effect of top dog’s work can be crucial for all?

To summarize is pretty hard to judge where is better to work. So far I have experience from small company. This company is kind of bureau of forest management so I was dealing with maps and plans for all private forests in Poland. I can’t say that it was bad but now I want to try something new and something different than till this time.

    My opinion about presentation:

I can’t say anything about presentation of Amzon.com because I was member of group which were responsible to introduce that company. So my judgment will be biased.

Presentation about Chinese baseball league wasn’t bad but group no 3. should make some changes for example prepare better topic that they will be able to answer every question.

  27. Working for small or big company? It depends, of course. Big company has huge and stable financial base. With huge financial base, it will be able to pay well for their good workers and annual bonus. Big company can also try different policy and business strategy. If new strategy fails, unfortunately, its financial advantage can compensate for the lost and will not be flat busted. Good payment requires hard work. Working in a big company brings about a lot of pressure, competition between colleague happens every day and every moment.
Small companies may not provide such good salary in contrast, but the working environment might not be as stressful as in big ones.
Respecting international company, it sounds more attractive to me than local company does. Almost everything now is globalism, having world outlook can be the crucial essence of victory. Being part of a international company might have chances meeting foreign businessmen, and by that, can mold us into a person with world-wide vision. However, not everyone wants to spend time overseas, family might be more important to him/her.
I’m not sure which kind of company I want to work for, it depends on my needs. I’ll revalue pros and cons when I am actually looking for a job.

  28. It has a lot of different advantages and weak between big company and small company. Big company is more famous in its field and their subsidiary diffuse all around the world therefore we can work abroad and accumulate different experience ,reinforce our competitive strength. As you know it has bigger financial base, not easy to ruin. A completely welfare system for employee. On the other hand big company has a poor relationship between employee, there are few promotable opportunity but everyone want to promote. It cause intrigue against each other. In contrast with big company, the relationship of small company is mor harmonious. Employer is easy to know what is the employee require and need. Employer can exploit potentialities in their company to avoid brain-drain , But the financial base of small company is more unstable,we have to concern about our operating profit.

It comes to me, I prefer to work for a small company rather than big one, but there is a prerequisite, it must be a prospective company. Because I can’t image one day this small company is bankrupt, where should I go? I like to work at my utmost with my colleague but not to compete, and dedicate my whole life to our company to make it grow in strength. It seems more difficult to come true, but I really won’t work in a big company where I should always follow the rules, Although it is paradoxical. And I don’t want to waste my energy to do something that I can’t get any reward from employer.

But the most important for me to work in small company is to learn how to get along with people and deal case with different ways. This is my essential principle in job. However
It is not the time to talk about it. Because I can’t predict what kind of company I will work for.
